Description: Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic used to treat bladder infections. Although sulfonamides and antibiotics are usually the agents of choice for urinary tract infections, nitrofurantoin is widely used for prophylaxis and long-term suppression. It is not effective for kidney infections.
