Description: Clonazepam, sold under the brand name Klonopin among others, is an anticonvulsant used to prevent and treat several types of seizures, including myotonic or atonic seizures, photosensitive epilepsy, and absence seizures, panic disorders, and the movement disorder known as akathisia. It is a tranquilizer of the benzodiazepine class. The mechanism of action appears to involve the enhancement of gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor responses. Clonazepam is discontinued.
